Good Morning Dear

Special thanks to Good Morning Dear for extending this food review invitation.

Update: This business has ceased its operations.

My recent visit to My Own Café (我的咖啡馆) at Cannon Street was to review the Uncle Chee Muah Chee (Uncle Chee 麻糍) stall. About a fortnight after, I am back here under kind invitation of Good Morning Dear (亲爱的早安).
Good Morning Dear is one of the four stalls in front of My Own Café. This stall specializes in Western-style breakfast and sandwiches.
The main menu is the familiar American-style breakfast platter with comfort food such as sausages and ham. There are a handful of different choices; each differs in terms of specific combination.
There is also a secondary menu for sandwiches and sausages. These serve as a light snack in lieu of proper meal.
My sample today is the Morning Set (RM8.50), the ultimate breakfast choice for a very hungry person. This breakfast platter consists of a chicken sausage, chicken ham, chicken patty, grilled mushroom, egg, baked beans, toast and side vegetables (lettuce, cucumber and tomato).
Eggs are usually served sunny-side-up, but one may request for scrambled egg instead at no extra charge.

The entire menu of Good Morning Dear is beef-free. Most items are also pork-free except for bacon, which is available as add-on.
The chicken patty and sausage are fine; grilled just about right and not too dry. The same can be said for the slices of ham. Grilled mushrooms are slightly salty, but this assessment really depends on individual taste; I have tasted saltier ones while wandering in the States.
Surprisingly, I find the toasted bread very nice. Despite its unassuming appearance, the texture of bread is soft and delightful, while its taste is well-balanced without overwhelming buttery sensation.

To be honest, it is difficult to differentiate American-style breakfast among different hawker stalls because the raw ingredients are largely generic. Competitive costing structure precludes the use of more expensive ingredients such as cheese-filled sausages or pure meat patties.
For Good Morning Dear, the major selling point is its reasonably large breakfast serving at affordable prices. Keep in mind that Cannon Street is a bustling tourist area due to presence of heritage sites like Khoo Kongsi; many nearby businesses exploit this fact by charging exorbitant prices. Fortunately, this is not the case at Good Morning Dear.
While dining at My Own Café, check out the painting on the wall. This is one of the hundreds of wall art scattered throughout George Town.
