My dining experience at the Dôme Café outlet at 1st Avenue Mall last month has been less than satisfactory, but Dôme is quick to meet me up to rectify the situation. For convenience, the venue today is the Queensbay Mall outlet.
Based on my conversation with Mr. Joshua, the District Manager for Penang outlets, it is evident that Dôme treats every customer’s feedback very seriously. As a café franchise from Perth, all Dôme outlets in Malaysia religiously follow the Australian cafés to the last detail. Food quality, presentation, service etiquette and store presentation are highly codified, and it is not uncommon for each Dôme outlet to be audited for compliance.
My beverage of choice today is the Flat White (RM13.00). It consists of a single shot of espresso with smooth top of steamed milk. A couple of biscotti are provided on the side. Dôme boldly claims that it serves the “World’s Finest Coffees”; I am sure that this is just a form of puffery, but I have no objections to this claim.
The Flat White is by far the most popular coffee among Australians. Alongside Caffè Latte, I consider the Flat White to be a good metric of coffee quality in a given café.
