Special thanks to The Westin Kuala Lumpur for extending this food review invitation.

The Westin Kuala Lumpur is a 5-star hotel in Bukit Bintang. The hotel has several dining outlets ranging from Chinese to Italian cuisine. One of these eateries, The Living Room, serves as the all-day dining restaurant.

This evening, The Westin is having a media preview of the upcoming Indahnya Ramadhan buffet, which will be held from 25 April 2020 to 22 May 2020. According to Executive Chef Halim, the buffet menu emphasizes on authentic Malay recipes that people have grown to love.

The buffet spread features over a dozen Malay dishes in kawah. These oversized woks are often used during communal occasions to cook food in large amounts. Signature dishes in kawah are Gulai Kambing Kawah, Masak Lemak Perut Lembu and Kari Kepala Ikan Penang.

Other popular Malay dishes include Rendang Ayam Hijau, Rendang Tok, Ketam Bercili, Patin Tempoyak, Sambal Sotong, Udang Kalio and more.

Kambing Golek Berempah is another major highlight. The whole goat is marinated for many hours before being roasted. The mutton goes well with Nasi Kurma and Nasi Kuning.

For a taste of Western cuisine, go for Cajun Roasted Chicken with barbecue sauce. Also served are Mushroom Beef Wellington and Baked Salt Crusted Sea Bass.

The à la minute counter serves Seafood Tom Yam and Sabah Fish Head Noodle Soup. Diners are allowed to customize the ingredients to their preferences.

Asam Pedas Selat Melaka is another delicacy this evening. Diners have the privilege of choosing seafood ingredients such as kembung (mackerel), pari (stingray), jenahak (sea bass), mussels, prawns and squids.

Diners will be surprised to find the assortment of ulam-ulaman on top of a wooden canoe. An equally impressive variety of condiments are prepared to go with these raw vegetables.

Notable delicacies that one should not miss are Hati Ayam Goreng Bercili and Sambal Tempe & Ikan Bilis Petai.

Be sure not to overlook the outdoor Ikan Bakar station too. Types of fish include tilapia, cencaru (torpedo scad), kembung and pari. The fish are seasoned with spices and grilled over burning charcoal.

If you enjoy seafood, Udang Tiga Rasa is your cup of tea. The prawns come in 3 different marinades: lemongrass, citrus and ginseng. Served chilled, the prawns are presented in elegant ice sculptures.

The desserts section is not to be trifled with either. Besides the ubiquitous Malay kuih, the buffet counter has a variety of Western pastries too. While you are here, make sure you sample some Putu Bambu; the snack is steamed in bamboo tubes and sweetened with gula melaka (palm sugar).

The Westin’s Indahnya Ramadhan Package is priced from RM178.00 net per adult and RM89.00 net per child. Early birds enjoy special prices as low was RM99.00 net per adult. In addition, the hotel is also having Indahnya Hari Raya Open House Package from 23 May 2020 to 23 June 2020. Gamelan performance can be arranged for a minimum booking of 150 people.
