Special thanks to SUPE for extending this food review invitation.

SUPE Japanese Vegan Restaurant is located at the ground floor of Wisma Noble Land, Bukit Bintang. The eatery is one of three SUPE outlets; the other two are at Gurney Plaza and Gat Lebuh Acheh in George Town.

SUPE (pronounced “sue pea”) is a portmanteau of its founders, Summer and Hope. The restaurant aims to bring vegan cuisine to mainstream customers. Although vegetarian restaurants are increasingly popular nowadays, it is quite rare to find Japanese ones because Japanese vegan dishes are somewhat difficult to prepare.

SUPE prepares all ingredients from scratch in the kitchen. All dishes are cooked to order with premium ingredients such as olive oil and Himalayan salt. In spite of that, the menu prices are surprisingly affordable. Unlike the vast majority of vegetarian establishments, SUPE refrains from using mock meat.

All In One Sushi (RM40.00) is an assortment of Rainbow Maki, Crispy G-ken Floss Inside-Out Rolls, Chuka Wakame Gunkan, Pure Inari and Climate Maki. It is recommended to consume sushi from lightest to heaviest flavor.

Kinoko Fried Rice (RM10.00) is cooked with olive oil for added aroma. The peppery dish contains enoki or abalone mushrooms. Japanese cucumber and papadum crackers are served on the side. Customers have a choice of white rice or brown rice. Kinoko Fried Rice is best enjoyed while piping hot from the wok.

SUPE Ramen (RM17.00) is one of the restaurant’s bestselling dishes. The broth is concocted from red chili, turmeric, lemongrass and other pungent spices. The result is a rich soup that is appetizing to the last drop. The noodle dish is topped with kombu (kelp), tofu, sesame seeds and flaxseeds.

SUPE Tempeh (RM12.00) adds a unique twist to the Indonesian soy product. Bite-size pieces of tempeh are coated with homemade flour and deep-fried to golden perfection. Also provided are julienned Japanese cucumber and vegan mayonnaise as dipping sauce.

Last but not least, Summer Fried Salad (RM12.00) comprises of fresh romaine lettuce, Japanese cucumbers, red apples, grapes, toasted black sesame and vegan mayonnaise.

SUPE’s dining area is fine-tuned to present a comfortable ambience for casual dining. Indeed, the vegan restaurant has a substantial number of regular customers, some of whom stay outstation and never miss a meal during their visit to Kuala Lumpur!
