Special thanks to Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre for extending this food review invitation.

For the upcoming Chinese New Year, Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre welcomes the Year of the Ox with a medley of festive meals. The hotel’s flagship Chinese restaurant, Red Chinese Cuisine, has curated 3 special menus for this auspicious occasion.

Each of these 9-course meals is available in portions of 5 or 10 persons. The meal also includes a bottle of Spanish wine, Vina Albali Cabernet Sauvignon. Today’s media review combines signature dishes across several menus.

The meal begins with Red Signature Superfood Healthy Yee Sang (招牌五谷丰收健康齐捞生). The dish uses premium ingredients such as quinoa, almonds, walnuts, pumpkins, dragon fruit, wolfberries, mandarin oranges and cherry tomatoes.

Next, the Homestyle Steamed Cod Fish Fillet (家乡蒸鳕鱼片) has an exquisite texture that strikes a chord with my palate. The fish is served with ginger slivers and savory dark sauce.

This is followed by Stir-Fried Tiger Prawns With Marmite Sauce (蜜汁老虎虾). The shrimps are fresh and crunchy indeed. The sweet-tangy dish also carries a hint of spiciness.

Roasted Australian Lamb Rack With Cumin Crust (小茴香烤澳洲羊架) is one the main highlights today. Marinated to perfection, the lamb is succulent to the last morsel.

I am also impressed with the Braised Beancurd With Pumpkin Sauce & Green Vegetables (翠绿金汁烩金砖). The vegetarian dish is served with shimeji and shiitake mushrooms too.

As for something filling, Steamed Yam Rice With Wax Meat (腊味芋头蒸饭) is an ideal choice. The homemade Chinese sausages are simply delectable!

Double-Boiled Clam Meat, Conpoy & Sikie Fowl Soup (明目鱼瑶柱炖乌鸡汤) helps to cleanse the palate after a heavy meal.

Moving on to sweet desserts, we are greeted by a lovely pair of Steamed Koi Fish-Shaped Nian Gao (鲤鱼年糕). These glutinous rice cakes are considered auspicious because “nian gao” (年糕) is a homonym for “higher year” (年高).

Last but not least, Double-Boiled Dried Longan With Candied Dates & Swiftlet Nest (蜜枣龙眼雪燕茶) ends the meal on a sweet note.

As for customers who prefer to dine at home, Red Chinese Cuisine offers individual dishes like yee sang (鱼生), poon choi (盆菜) and dim sum (点心) for take-away. All these festive delicacies are available from 19 January 2021 to 26 February 2021. Customers can place orders via WhatsApp (+60) 16-290 3864 or by email restaurants@pullman-klcc.com.
